The International Sinological Colloquia of Chantilly were founded by Jesuit Fathers Joseph Dehergne and Henri Bernard Maître. The first Colloquium was held 20-22 September 1974, at the Cultural Center of "Les Fontaines" in Chantilly, France. Successive Colloquia have been held every three years since then.

The French Jesuit Joachim Bouvet (1656-1730) was one of the five famous "Mathematiciens du Roy" who were sent to China by the Sun King Louis XIV.
